he California League of Conservation Voters – the non-partisan electoral arm of the environmental conservation movement – endorsed Susan Jordan today.
Jordan, a Democratic candidate for the 35th Assembly District in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, is the co-founder and Director of the California Coastal Protection Network and Vote the Coast. For the past 15 years, Susan has worked with local communities up and down the state to stop illegal projects that threaten our coastal resources and our vibrant tourist and marine economy. And she has won numerous major battles against powerful special interests because of her intelligence, integrity, work ethic and attention to detail.

It is with firm conviction that I endorse the candidacy of Susan Jordan for the 35th Assembly District,” said longtime Democratic Party leader Sue Broidy.
“I felt strongly that I was not in a position to endorse either candidate in the race while I was still Region 10 Director, as my role was to support, encourage and provide resources for all Democratic candidates,” said Broidy, who recently stepped down from the position because of an impending move to another state.
“The situation has now changed and I am free to endorse Susan,” Broidy continued. “I support women in public office as I believe they bring a different intelligence to public life which is urgently needed in Sacramento. Second, I admire Susan’s history of activism, her intelligence, integrity and clarity of vision.
“Susan Jordan also has my endorsement for her grace under fire and her firm adherence to her principles on the environment, health care and education,” Broidy added.

Regarding the misleading mailer by Alexandra Gallardo-Rooker, member of the California Democratic Party:
I am deeply saddened that Gallardo-Rooker, who has endorsed my opponent in the Democratic primary, would under the guise of providing information, deliberately mislead voters into thinking I was a Republican campaign strategist. Nothing is further from the truth. This is just another [...]

First-time candidate Susan Jordan has once again proven her tremendous grassroots support by raising $224,000 for her campaign for the 35th Assembly District seat in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
“I’m honored that hundreds of regular citizens have contributed to my campaign — $10, $25, $50 and some even more,” Jordan noted. “Most of the contributions are local, but I’m also proud that environmentalists and environmental groups from up and down the coast also donated.”

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

“The hypocrisy of this governor cannot be overstated. After both the State Lands Commission and the legislature said no to opening our coast to the first new oil drilling in 40 years, with a risky, secretly negotiated deal with Texas-based Plains Exploration & Production Company (PXP), the governor now threatens to eliminate all funding for our treasured state parks if he doesn’t get his way,” said Susan Jordan, Founder and Director of the California Coastal Protection Network and candidate for State Assembly, 35th District.
“The governor would rather cut essential services to the elderly, the disabled and the indigent than require that oil companies who profit from the exploitation of our state resources pay their fair share. If the governor really wants revenue, he should stand up to the oil companies who have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to him, and call for an oil severance tax on existing production that could bring $1.5 billion dollars to the state general fund right now,” Jordan said.
The proposed budget calls for reductions to CalWORKS, In-Home Support Services to the elderly, the Healthy Families program and other services if federal money doesn’t materialize.

As 2009 draws to a close, I can’t help but reflect back on the first decade of our new century.
While it is natural to focus on what we can do better, let us not lose sight of what inspires us — the spirited attitude and groundbreaking business innovations that our state is known for, as [...]
